What we do

Edventure endeavors to provide a safe and perfect environment for children to continue their learning and development through play opportunities at break-time.

Sensitive to the changing needs of today’s school children Edventure works with a number of significant partners in both the education and health sector on a number of initiatives, using their expertise and awareness of key issues.

Alder Hey Hospital

Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest specialist children’s healthcare providers in Western Europe. It has a national and international reputation as a centre of excellence for children with cancer, heart, spinal and brain disease and is one of a small number of children’s hospitals in the UK providing a comprehensive range of services from those based in the community to supra-regional specialties for children and young people.  It sees and treats more than 200,000 children each year and is England’s first paediatric health promoting hospital accredited by the World Health Organisation.

Edventure will be working with Alder Hey on some key initiatives that will benefit all primary age children. Through such initiatives Edventure will be at the forefront when providing schools with meaningful playtimes and constant opportunities for learning. Donations of games and equipment from Edventure have been used to help to improve the rehabilitation of the children and enable them to move back home sooner to be with their families.

Memory 4 Teachers Campaign

Memory 4 Teachers is a major new ICT initiative taking place within the UK education sector. The project has been developed, in association with LEAs and Teacher Unions, to support teachers and educators in addressing their ever-increasing workloads by funding the provision of 750,000 USB memory sticks across the UK. Edventure are very proud to have been selected as one of the partners in this historic campaign and look forward to the launch at the Education Show in March 2009.

Key partners will be providing content and resources for the memory sticks so that teachers have immediate direct access to a variety of materials from major organisations within the education sector. Edventure will also be contributing to the educational resources, worksheets and lesson plans. All of the main national curriculum subject areas and key stages are covered.

Amanda Gummer

Dr Amanda Gummer PhD, BA (Hons), PCHE

Amanda was an associate lecturer in Child Development with the Open University until the end of 2006. She is currently involved as an advisory member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Scientific Research in Learning and Education. She is an active member of both the National Toy Council and the Play Research network, presenting a paper at the prestigious ITRA world congress in July 2008.

In December 2008 the team at Edventure commissioned Amanda to categorise their range to provide teachers with an easy reference guide to the main skills that children develop using their products. Amanda feels very strongly that there is an ever-increasing need for active play within the playground and advocates the skills that can be acquired by ‘learning through play’.
